Dec 31 - Shine the Light of Jesus to the Whole World!

Bible Verse: Mark 16:15 New Living Translation (NLT) "And then he told them, 'Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.' "

Prayer: "Dear Lord, As I look back on the past year, I see so many marvelous -- even miraculous -- things that You have done in my life and in the world around me.  Even though things on this earth may seem dark sometimes, You are still the Light of the World.  When circumstances seem completely chaotic, remind me that You still in control.  As my grandma used to say, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!"  I do believe that this is true.  We may well be nearing the end of all time, or this earth may go on to exist for a few thousand more years, but irregardless, my job as a Christian is to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel to everyone around me.  Help me to take up my cross, follow You, and be a light in MY corner of the world.  May my small light spread into the darkness around me so that others will look to You for their salvation!  In Jesus' precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

Dec 30 - I Love to Tell the Story of Jesus and His Love!

Bible Verse: Luke 8:38-39 Common English Bible (CEB) "The man from whom the demons had gone begged to come along with Jesus as one of His disciples. Jesus sent him away, saying,  “Return home and tell the story of what God has done for you.” So he went throughout the city proclaiming what Jesus had done for him."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus, I don't know that You have ever chased actual demons from me, but I know that I have struggled with many figurative "demons" in my life, many of which You have rescued me from.  I want to shout it loud and clear, from hilltop to hilltop -- "Jesus saved me!"  Oh, how I wish everyone could know the precious joy and peace that can be found in knowing You as their Lord and Savior!  Until the day that I die, I will continue to proclaim Your love and saving grace to anyone who will listen. May my last words be, "Thank You, Jesus, for saving me!" In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

"I Love to Tell the Story"

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory of Jesus and His love!
I love to tell the story because I know 'tis true --
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do!

I love to tell the story,
'Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story,
Of Jesus and His love!

I love to tell the story  -- more wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story -- it did so much for me,
And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee!

I love to tell the story,
'Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story,
Of Jesus and His love!

I love to tell the story, for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest,
And when in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song --
'Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long!

I love to tell the story,
'Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story,
Of Jesus and His love!

I love to tell the story,
'Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story,
Of Jesus and His love!

All hail the power of Jesus' name,
Let angels prostrate fall!
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all;
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all!

Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him Lord of all;
Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him Lord of all!

Let every kindred every tribe
On this terrestrial ball
To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all;
To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all!

Oh that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall!
We'll join the everlasting song
And crown Him Lord of all;
We'll join the everlasting song
And crown Him Lord of all!

Dec 27 - My New Life Starts Today!

Bible Verse: Psalm 51:10 King James Version (KJV) "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."

Prayer: "Dear Lord,  Today I want to start fresh.  Life sometimes gets so messy and complicated.  The drama . . . oh, the drama! And let's not forget the politics! Lord, help me to distance myself from all of that junk and instead focus on You and Your holiness.  Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.  Give me an attitude adjustment. Help me to see things as You would see them and treat others as You would.  Remind me that every morning is a chance for a fresh start! Thank You, Jesus, for giving me the reassurance that with Your help I can rise above the garbage around me and keep a positive outlook on life!  In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

Dec 26 - Will YOU Be There?

Bible Verse: Revelation 22:12 King James Version (KJV) "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus,  When You come in the clouds of glory, may You find me ready to meet You.  May my life have been lived in such a way that You will say, 'well done, good and faithful servant.'  I know that since I have given my heart to You and am trusting You to work in my life to make me more like You, that on that day I will join the millions of other believers as we rise to meet You in the sky.  I cannot wait for that day, Lord. How I long to see Your face!  In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

"When the Roll Is Called up Yonder"

When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound
And time shall be no more
And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore
And the roll is called up yonder I'll be there

When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there!

On that bright and cloudless morning
When the dead in Christ shall rise
And the glory of His resurrection share
When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies
And the roll is called up yonder I'll be there

When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there!

Let us labor for the Master
From the dawn 'till setting sun
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care
Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done
And the roll is called up yonder I'll be there

When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder
When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there!

Dec 25 - The REAL Gift

Bible Verses:

Luke 2:4-7 New Living Translation (NLT) "And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger."

1 Corinthians 1:2 New Living Translation (NLT) "He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as He did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus, I don't know exactly when You were born -- nobody does, but this is the day we have chosen to celebrate Your birthday.  I pray that as I gather with my family and friends that I will remember what the miracle of Christmas really is -- that You came to earth to live a sinless life, die on the cross, and rise from that dead so that You could not only save me from my sins, but also help me to live a Godly life!  So today, amid the turkey and all the trimmings, I pause to wish You a happy, happy birthday! Jesus, I love You! In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

"Happy Birthday, Jesus!"

Happy Birthday, Jesus,
I'm so glad it's Christmas.
All the tinsel and lights
And the presents are nice,
But the real gift is You!

Happy Birthday, Jesus,
I'm so glad it's Christmas.
All the carols and bells
Make the holiday swell,
But it's all about You!

Happy Birthday, Jesus;
Jesus, I love You!
Happy Birthday, Jesus,
I'm so glad it's Christmas.
All the tinsel and lights
And the presents are nice,
But the real gift is You!

Happy Birthday, Jesus,
I'm so glad it's Christmas.
All the carols and bells
Make the holidays swell,
But it's all about You!
Happy Birthday, Jesus;
Jesus, I love You!

Dec 24 - Unto Us a Child Is Born!

Bible Verse: Isaiah 9:6 New King James Version (NKJV) "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus,  My heart thrills to hear these joyful voices singing out Your praises and echoing Your various names and titles -- Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace.  You are all of those things and so much more, but most importantly to me -- you are my Savior!  Yes, I'm glad that You were born, and I love to celebrate Your birth, but even more than that, I celebrate Your death and resurrection because they mean ETERNAL LIFE for me! But of course, none of that could have happened if You had never been born. And so on this eve of the day we celebrate Your birth, I worship You, Jesus, for being my EVERYTHING! Dec 23 - Forgive Us, Lord!

Bible Verse: Luke 23:34 New King James Version (NKJV) Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

Prayer: "Dear Lord,  You were that sweet little Jesus boy.  And yet, they whipped You like a dog and hung You up to die like a criminal.  They didn't know who You were -- that You had come to save us all.  And with Your dying breath, You asked Your Father to forgive them for what they were doing! What inconceivable love and compassion! As a human race, we have sinned in oh, so many, many ways.  Please, Sir, forgive us, Lord! And thank You, sweet little Jesus Boy, for coming here to die to save us from our sins. In Your precious and holy name I humbly pray, AMEN."

"Sweet Little Jesus Boy"

(choir singing in the background throughout)

Sweet little Jesus boy,
They made You be born in a manger.
Sweet little Holy Child,
Didn't know who You was.

Didn't know You'd come to save us, Lord,
To take our sins away!
Our eyes was blind,
We couldn't see --
We didn't know who you was!

Long time ago,
You was born.
Born in a manger, Lord,
Sweet little Jesus Boy.

The world treat you mean, Lord,
Treat me mean too!
But please, sir, forgive us, Lord!
We didn't know 'twas You!

Sweet little Jesus boy,
Born long time ago.
Sweet little Holy Child,
And we didn't know who You was!

Dec 22 - Listen to the Angels!

Bible Verse: Luke 2:13-14 New King James Version (NKJV) "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!'"

Prayer: "Dear Lord, I cannot help but wonder how many people sing this song every year and don't think a bit about the lyrics they are singing. Some of my favorite lines are: "Light and life to all He brings, ris'n with healing in His wings."  (Which tells me that I can have light and life and healing because Jesus came to earth, died, and rose again! Hallelujah!) "Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth." (Which tells me that because of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection I can not only be "born again" while on this earth, but I can live eternally with Him in Heaven if I place my full trust in Him. Hallelujah!) "Second Adam from Above, reinstate us in Thy love." (Which tells me that I am no longer under the curse of Adam's original sin, but am now fully reinstated as a child of God, thanks to the loving sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!) Lord, help me to pay attention to the words of these great hymn-writers as I sing them this year.  May I take to heart the message that they bring! In Jesus' precious and holy name, AMEN."

Bible Verse: Luke 2:19 New King James Version (NKJV) "But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart."

Prayer: "Dear Lord,  I cannot even begin to imagine what Mary must have felt like or what thoughts might have been running through her mind. I'm sure she was scared to death - - I would have been!  And yet, she was willing to go through with this, even though all she knew was that an Angel had told her it was a part of God's plan.  Lord, Make me like Mary! Give me that kind of faith and willingness to serve You.  Make me a vessel that You can fill to be poured out on those nearby.  In Jesus' name, AMEN."

Prayer: "Dear Heavenly Father,  There is no greater joy known to mankind than the wonderful joy in one's heart of knowing that one's sins have been forgiven!  Just thinking that I never would have experienced this wonderful joy if Jesus had never come fills me with an overcoming sense of wonder and awe! Dec 19 - When Love Was Born

Bible Verse: 1 John 4:10 New Living Translation (NLT) "This is real love - - not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."

Prayer: "Dear Heavenly Father,  Thank You so much for sending Your only Son, Jesus, to this earth to show us what REAL LOVE really is. Just that one small baby changed earth's history forever -- and I am so thankful that He came! Without His sacrifice on the cross that paid the penalty for my sins, I would have been lost forever.  Thank You, dear Lord, for being willing to send Jesus into this world to seek and save the lost! Prayer: "Dear Lord,  Sometimes during this busy holiday season, I forget to take time out to simply worship You. That's what the Angels did, that's what the shepherds did, and that's what I need to do -- raise my voice and praise Your holy name!  I bow before You, Lord, in humble adoration for all that You are, for all that You have done, and for all that You continue to do in my life. Born the King of angels!

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him

Sing choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
O sing all ye citizens
Of Heav'n above:
"Glory to God,
Glory in the highest!"

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!

Yes, Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning!
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv'n!
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing.

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him

Dec 17 - Do You Have Room?

Bible Verses:

Luke 2:7 New King James Version (NKJV) "And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."

Revelation 3:20 New Living Translation (NLT) "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus, I'd like to think that if I had been that innkeeper the night You were born that I would have given You a room.  Had I known that You were the King of Kings, I would have kicked somebody else out of their room and given You a place to be born.  But would I really have done any differently than the innkeeper did that night so long ago?  All he saw was a man and a VERY pregnant teenage girl. They probably looked like nothing but trouble to him.  How about me?  When I look at others, what do I see? Do I make snap judgments of others based only upon what they look like?  And how about when You knock on my heart's door, do I open the door and freely let You into every single part of my soul, or do I turn You away and say that I have "no room" for You in my life?  Dear Lord, I pray that I welcome You into my heart with open arms and willingly give You access  to every part of me -- come, Lord Jesus, be my guest!  In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

Dec 16 - The First Noel

Bible Verses: Luke 2:8-18 New Living Translation (NLT) "That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished."

Prayer: "Dear Heavenly Father,  I find it amazing that when it came time to announce the birth of Your Son, You didn't choose to send the Angels to visit a king, a priest, a prophet, or even a rich man. Did You consult with theologians?  No.  Did You ask the captains of industry?  No. The message came to this blue collared bunch, who heard it, checked it out, and spread it.  No reports were filed.  No councils were convened.  No committees were formed.  You chose simple farmers to spread the good news of Your Son's birth. I find this comforting, because as a simple farmer's daughter, I sometimes think that maybe I don't matter much to You -- that there's nothing You can really use me for.  But when I think about Your announcement to the shepherds, I am encouraged and I do believe that You can use EVEN SOMEONE LIKE ME to do something for You. The reach of these devotionals may be small -- I don't know; but I am glad that You give me the opportunity to write them, and I pray that each one who reads them realizes that he or she can do great things for You, no matter how unimportant he or she may feel.  In Your eyes, there is no such thing as "just" a farmer, or "just" a teacher, or "just" a construction worker, or "just" a garbage man, or "just" an ANYTHING! Each one of us can make a difference for You, if we allow ourselves to be used of You! In Jesus' precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

Bible Verse: Psalm 46:10 New Living Translation (NLT) “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Prayer: "Dear Heavenly Father,  In the hustle and bustle of this season, help me to remember that it's not about the presents, it's not about the decorations, and it's not about the food or preparations.  Christmas is about the REAL gift, the gift of Your Son Jesus Christ, who You sent to this world to save mankind.  Thank You, Lord, for this unimaginable gift!  In Jesus' precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

Bible Verse:  Micah 5:2 New Living Translation (NLT) "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus,  The fact that You chose to come to a little out-of-the-way town speaks volumes to me.  It tells me that You care about details.  It tells me that You are interested in even the smallest things. And, because this is so, I know that You are interested in even the smallest details of my life.  You care when I am hurting. You care when I rejoice.  I know that no matter what is going on in my life, that You will be right there to walk through it with me. Thank You, Jesus! In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

Dec 13 - One Baby Changed EVERYTHING!

Bible Verse: Romans 5:1 New Living Translation (NLT) "Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us."

Prayer: "Dear Jesus, Out of all of the babies that have been born throughout history, You were the only one that really mattered, because it was through Your death on the cross that I could be made right with God.  If You had never been born, I would be stuck in sin forever because on my own, I cannot get to heaven.  Because Mary was willing to be obedient to God, my sins are now forgiven because of Your sacrifice on the cross for me.  Truly, one baby changed EVERYTHING!  In Your precious and holy name, AMEN."

"A Baby Changes Everything"

(spoken dialog between the Angel and Mary
taken from the Bible, Matthew Chapter 1)

Teenage girl, much too young,
Unprepared for what's to come.
A baby changes everything!

Not a ring on her hand . . .
All her dreams and all her plans . . .
A baby changes everything!
A baby changes everything!

The man she loves,
She's never touched --
How will she keep his trust?
A baby changes everything!
A baby changes everything!

And she cries!
Ooh, she cries!

She has to leave, go far away.
Heaven knows she can't stay.
A baby changes everything!

She can feel He's coming soon.
There's no place; there's no room.
A baby changes everything!
A baby changes everything!

And she cries!
And she cries!
Oh, she cries!

Shepherds all gather 'round.
Up above the star shines down.
A baby changes everything!

Choir of angels sing
Glory to the newborn King.
A baby changes everything!
A baby changes everything!

Everything, everything, everything!

Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!

My whole life has turned around
I was lost, but now I'm found!
A baby changes everything,
A baby changes everything!

Dec 12 - One Holy Night

Bible Verse: Matthew 1:20-21 New Living Translation (NLT) "As he considered this, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. 'Joseph, son of David,' the Angel said, 'do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the Child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for He will save his people from their sins.' "

Prayer: "Dear Jesus, I wish I could have been there to see the look on Joseph's face when the angel told him that his fiancee Mary was going to have a baby.  I cannot imagine the thoughts that must have run through his mind.  Had she been unfaithful to him?  How else could she possibly be pregnant?  And yet, he trusted God and followed the Divine plan that had been in place for thousands of years.  I wish I could have been there that night that You were born -- especially when the shepherds came and the angels sang! I bet Joseph knew then that what the angel had said was true! Truly, that was a holy night! Help me to remember that Your birth is what Christmas is all about! In Your precious name, AMEN."

Dec 11 - I Wonder If She Knew?

Bible Verse: Luke 1:28-31 New Living Translation (NLT) "Gabriel appeared to her and said, 'Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!' Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.'Don’t be afraid, Mary,' the angel told her, 'for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.' "

Prayer: "Dear Jesus,  I wonder if Your mother had any idea, when she first held You in her arms, that she was holding the Son of God? I wonder if she knew that You would someday die to redeem the entire human race? If she had known, would she have done anything differently, I wonder? I guess it really doesn't matter, but I am so glad that she was willing to be used of God to bring You into this world.  Jesus, I am so glad that You came!  In Your precious and holy name I pray, AMEN."

"Mary, Did You Know?"

Mary did you know that your Baby Boy will some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your
Baby Boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your
Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you
.

Mary did you know that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your
Baby Boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod? And when your kiss your little Baby, you've kissed the face of God.
The blind will see, the deaf will hear, and the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the Lamb!

Mary did you know that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your Baby Boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your Baby Boy is Heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping Child you're holding is the great I Am.
